This is an old article, but I thought it illustrated just how hypocritical and full of BS the Obama's really are. How much do we hear from Obama about "shared sacrifice" giving things up, and the rich paying their "fair share."

I always love the whole push by Liberals like the Obama's to play it up like they're just like you and I and looking out for the "little people" unlike those rich fatcats in the GOP. It's BS. Barry & Michelle are no more "normal" down to earth, or financially similar to the average American than Mitt Romney is.

Normal people don't wear sneakers that cost as much as my monthly rent payment.

As for Michelle Obama, I really get a laugh out of her outrage over being labeled an "angry black woman." She embodies that stereotype, and her reaction to the labeling only reinforces it. I could be wrong, but I think the first time I heard that term applied to her was when Barack used it to describe her.

Here's a woman who grew up thoroughly in a "guns are bad, scary things!" culture of the liberals states, but expose her to to a little bit of American freedom, put her on the shooting range just once, and this is what she takes away from the experience.

And then there's this bit, and I quote,

"Yet to fire a gun is to realize you can do it: You can operate one, understand how it works."

This. This is without a doubt one of the single biggest reasons why bringing folks to the range works! One of the biggest issues folks have with guns is fear of the unknown. Fear that it's just going to go off. Fear that it'll hurt them. Fear that they won't be able to competently and safety use one. Hell, a fear they can't even verbalize. Once those first few rounds go downrange and they see holes in the target in front of them much of that goes right out the window, replaced with the exhilerating realization that they CAN do this. Fear is quickly replaced with fun.

It's funny, because this mirrors my mom's experience. All it took was a little exposure to guns and gun ownership and one single range trip to go from "I don't want a gun in the house" to being excited about having her own gun in the house.
It may take Amanda a little bit more time than that, but she'll get there soon enough. She's already taken that first huge step towards overcoming her fears. I'd say, give her a couple more trips to the range and she'll be just fine. Way to go Amanda!

Aww, it looks like the poor little narcissist-in-chief can't take criticism which lifts the veil and shows his true nature. I'm not surprised. President obama is clearly a narcissist, and we know he's both arrogant and condescending. If we, the public, see him that way I can only imagine how much of an asshole he is behind closed doors. Of course the public portrayal vs. private reality dichotomy is not at all unusual for narcissists.

Hell, just look at Obama's speeches. All he has is angry rhetoric, blaming others for his failures, self-inflating puffery and doing all he can to encourage divisiveness in America. He's not above the fray, he's not a new kind of politician. No, he's exactly the kind of person that folks like me have been saying he was since his candidacy began. He is who we thought he was.

Also, damn, I've gotta applaud Gov. Brewer. saying "I respect the office of the President." Notice what she didn't say, that is "I respect President Obama." Hell, I was raised to understand that respect is earned, and President Obama has earned nothing but my disrespect.

Predictably, people in the comments are defending Obama, calling Brewer a racist, and whining because she's being "disrespectful" to the President. I'm sorry, but the left has NO room to talk about anyone being disrespectful to the President after how they treated Bush for 8 years. His initial interaction with her on the tarmac was to complain about her saying unflattering things about him and to generally act like a whiney little asshat. Do that and people will call you on it.

Forgive me, but I'm having a hard time getting all worked up because a couple of our marines pissed on a few dead Taliban fighters who had just killed some of their buddies. Should they be reprimanded? Sure, but the reaction (especially among the left / MSM) is totally overblown here.

I asked my poppop about this and he was a bit taken aback by the reaction it's getting. I'm paraphrasing, but he basically said "They were dead, right? Ok, then, what's the big deal? This is war." I can only imagine what my other poppop would have to say to these armchair quarterbacks if he were alive today. I suspect it wouldn't be pretty.

Also, for all those using this incident as an excuse to attack the troops, where's your outrage over the actions of our enemies? The Taliban and other jihadists have done far, far worse to the bodies of dead American soldiers. Spare me the selective outrage please. Just come right out and tell us you hate the troops. Why even bother engaging the professional victims who are paid shills of the gun control movement? If you look at their actions it becomes obvious that all they do is act like petulant children.

They are, by and large, nasty, hateful people who want to pull us down into the muck with them so they can say "hey, look at all those mean, nasty gun owners!" I look at twitter and all I see from the anti's is an endless campaign of personal attacks and continued "outing" of pro-gun bloggers. They are the very antithesis of the gunnie community I have come to know and love.

I've been arguing with anti's since before I had a blog. Hell, I was doing it back when the Brady Campaign allowed comments on their blog. I'm burntout on stupid and inclined to just say "stupid is as stupid does" and leave them be. I love debate, I love to argue, but let's be honest. These people are just plain nasty and they present no intellectual challenge. These are not intellectual heavyweights. They are paid shills who've been duped and will never see the world through any prizm other than that of perpetual, exploitative victimhood. They are sad but predictable and they bore the hell out of me.

I mean, if you want to address some dumb argument of Insert Name Here that's your choice, but dealing with mentally ill folks who are incapable of using reason, forming coherent thoughts, or determining truth from falsity hurts my head and makes me wonder if it's killing brain cells. They will come after you, they will personally attack you, threaten you, and "out" you. I don't have the patience for that level of filth, and frankly, these people are irrelevant (which I think in part explains their behavior)

Do you know how I'd deal with petulant children? Send them to go sulk in the corner alone and then ignore them. I feel the same way about anti-gunners. They don't want debate. They have no capacity for rational thought. They have no decency or tact. They are not like us.

Oh sure, I'll point out their bigotry, hatred, intolerance and lies in extraordinary cases where it's particularly illustrative of the low character of people we're dealing with. Most of the time though, they're just not worth it. Lipstick or not I don't feel like rolling around in the mud with pigs.*

Newsflash - I'm Heartless

Looks like I have old, unpublished posts around, so here ya go.

I got called heartless and told I have "no empathy" because I wasn't outraged that a rural fire department didn't put out a house fire at the home of a woman who didn't pay for those services. One thing that came up was the fact that the firefighters bothered to show up, then watched and let it burn. The question at hand was why bother to show up at all if you're just going to watch it burn?

It's simple. You pay for services, those services are provided. You don't pay for them, you don't get em'.

I could be wrong here, but it seems to me that firefighters have an obligation to show up even though the woman had not paid the fee. This is for two reasons, and it's not to be assholes, as the person who called me heartless would contend. One, while they are willing to let property burn, they are not willing to let a family die in their home over a $75 fee. This means they show up, ensure that people are safe, and then proceed no further. Two, they have to show up to the call to ensure that adjacent property / homes (who have paid the fee) are protected.

Keep in mind that in this case we have a municipal, taxpayer funded fire department that essentially contracts its services out to those outside of its municipality. You wouldn't expect the municipal taxpayers who fund the department to pay for the fire department to fight fires elsewhere, would you? Would that even be practical or financially sustainable? No. It makes perfect sense that the city fire department would be limited fighting fires within its jurisdiction, except as provided by other contractual agreements.

Here's the bottom line. Vicky Bell lived in an area without fire protection. A neighboring city expanded their coverage outside of the municipal limits, for a flat fee of $75 / year. Vicky Bell was aware of this and chose not to pay the fee. Do I wish she had not lost her house? Do I wish her community had a volunteer fire department of its own? Sure.

I empathize with her situation because, well, it sucks. Still, it's her own damn fault.

President Obama, vaunted Constitutional scholar, is more than happy to wantonly violate the Constitution when it suits him. Obama is brazenly making "recess appointments" when the Senate is quite simply not in a recess.

Below is the Constitutional clause which grants the President the power to make appointments,

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

Here's what the Constitition plainly says on the matter.

“Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days.”

This seems pretty basic to me. The Senate cannot adjourn for more than 3 days without an ajournment resolution being agreed upon by both the House and Senate. Both congressional chambers have been meeting every 3 days and no such resolution has been agreed upon, therefore the Senate is in session, not in recess, no matter how much Dictator Obama believes otherwise. The House did not give any such consent, therefore the Senate is not at recess. End of story. Hell, Obama's own administration said as much as early as last year.

The shorter version of Obama's position is "I don't like what you Republican's are doing, so I'm just going to ignore the Constitution and pretend the Senate is in recess so I can do what I want." Obama seems to think he gets to unilaterally decide when the Senate is in recess and when it isn't.

Also, if Obama believes he can make recess appointments inside of a 3 day window whenever he "feels" the Senate isn't in session what's to stop him from proclaiming every single weekend a "recess" and making his appointments then? What a narcissistic, arrogant little brat this President is.

In addition to the Constitutional issue, Obama has another problem with making a recess appointment to the CFPB. The Dodd-Frank bill which created the new agency states that the Director has to be confirmed by the Senate. A recess appointment is not a Senate confirmation.

In typical narcissistic fashion Obama says "I refuse to take no for an answer!." I suggest he get good and used to it.

The idea of someone my age or older having sex with 18 year old college students is a bit weird, in my opinion, but it absolutely should not be a felony offense. Teachers having sex with students isn't professional, and one could make a case against it from a moral standpoint, but I don't think that means it should be illegal when both parties are adults. Either we start treating 18 year olds like adults or we don't.

President Obama, despite campaigning as a uniter has been, without a doubt, one of the most divisive Presidents in modern history.

He is a child, blaming everyone and everything (even technology and ATM's) for the predicament the country is in. He blames anything but his own liberal ideology and liberal policies, because the entirely predictable failure that is liberalism cannot be wrong.

I think commenter "Joebatters" summed up Obama's despicable tactic quite well in his comments to this article, saying,

"Every 'ism' needs a boogey man. Fascism in Germany needed the Jews. Communism needed the bourgeois. And liberalism needs the rich to deflect the failure of their ideology. Interestingly though, it is a parasitic relationship, for once they eliminate the wealth producers, their own money supply runs out."

He's right. For the left and Obama "The Rich" are the boogeyman. The real problem here is government spending. Everyone capable of rational thought knows this, which is why Obama is spending every moment he can deflecting, accussing, rabblerousing, and drumming up populist anger amongst the masses who stepped away from "Dancing With The Stars" and "Toddlers and Tiaras" momentarily.

Home invasions on the rise

As this News Journal article says, home invasions are on the rise in Delaware, and residents are understandably alarmed.

One bright spot, however, is that communities downstate are radically different than the rest of the state. Read the article and what do you notice? You notice individuals waking up, buying and or carrying guns, and taking individual responsibility for their safety. You notice the community banding together to help their neighbors rather than complaining about evil guns and shrieking for politicians to "do something" (which is what you'd see in say, Wilmington)

In Wilmington, we'd hear residents calling for politicians to "do something" we'd hear calls to "get the guns off the streets." In Kent and Sussex Counties residents arm themselves, start a town watch, and we hear this,

"I just hope that if it happens again, somebody shoots the guys."

That is the right attitude.

One thing that struck me from the article was the completely rational response from the husband who had to endure the early morning invasion referenced at the beginning of the article, and I quote,

"Last week, he showed a visitor the black Ruger .38-caliber semi-automatic pistol he carries in his pants pocket.
"I never answered the door like this before," the husband said. "I do now."

You know what the crazy thing is? Technically, according to Delaware's CCDW laws, the husband is now committing a felony unless he has a CCDW. I'm willing to bet he, and many, many other Delawareans have no idea it's even a crime.

That's one thing a lot of people don't realize. I'm willing to bet that most Delaware gun owners have no idea our CCDW law extends inside their own home. Stilll, it's not a law I expect most folks would follow even if they're aware of it. People in my state should do what they feel is necessary and prudent to protect their homes. I'm glad to see the my fellow gun owners downstate are doing exactly that.

I've never done this whole "work full time, go to school at night" thing, and I haven't cracked a textbook since 2008, so I'm a little nervous. Still, when The Firm steps in and says they'll reimburse me 100% if I'd like to go back to school I'd have to be crazy not to take them up on it.

Also, no school loans. I have more than enough in savings to cover tuition, since I was planning on doing this even before work pulled me aside and offered to pay.

I'll still be blogging somewhat regularly until then, but after January 9th expect the free ice cream machine to be on the fritz here. You may get some sweets occasionally, but don't get your hopes up.

Though my experience does not mirror hers, both the Cornered Cat and Lima's youtube channel were some of the first things I came across when I was an ignorant, neophyte gun owner. They were a tremendous help to me. I'm glad to see that those two ladies helped this woman turn a traumatic experience into something positive.

If even one person has read something here that has had a positive impact on their life and helped them grow and move in the right direction, then it's all worth it. Keep in mind that when you blog you might be more of a positive influence than you know.

That's one of the greatest things about the gunnie community and the online gunblogging community in particular. They are incredibly accommodating, respectful, kind, and willing to help. Hell, you can go to a blogshoot, shake hands with someone you've never met, and they'll graciously sit you down behind one of their rifles and help you out when you ask. My experience was the rule, not the exception.

Go into her archives and read too. The experiences of a neophyte gunnie are always an interesting read, and her blog does not disappoint.

Another Gun Blog turns 4 today. I started this blog on December 10, 2007 and received a total of 7 comments that month.

Amazingly, some of those commenters, like Weer'd and Breda, are still reading my scribblings. They must be gluttons for punishment. :)

If all goes well I may be leaving the blogging world for at least a little while, so to those two, and to the rest of you who have read Another Gun Blog over the past four years, thank you!

CDNN is having a sale on P225 / P6 magazines. $29.99 each. They're also doing a $5 flat rate shipping special. I just bought a couple, as I haven't seen new P225 mags that cheap in a long time.

I also bought some Metalform 1911 mags. We'll see if they work in the Dan Wesson. If not, well they're under $10 so I'm not out much and I can always give them to other folks with 1911's.

Single Stack Bersa

As Jay notes, it looks like Bersa has come out with a single stack 9mm pistol for concealed carry. 21.5 ounces, a hair under 6.5 inches long and 5 inches tall and under an inch wide. While not tiny, those stats put it at about the same size as a Bersa Thunder 380 only significantly thinner.

It's funny, I think of my smallest autoloader, a Sig P6 as svelte, but compared to most single stack CCW pieces on the market these days it's big and clunky, especially for something that carries 8+1 rounds of 9mm.

Guns on my campus

A former UD student attempts suicide on campus right in front of the Library. He's rushed to the hospital and survives. Had he decided to walk into the library and take a bunch of people out with him he could have done so easily. I'm sure students, faculty, and administrators consider the library a "safe place" just like they'd consider Breda's gun-free library a "safe place."

How could this be!? How could it possibly happen? I mean just listen to University spokeswoman Meredith Chapman,

"Weapons are not permitted on the university campus."

Tell that to my floormate Freshman year, who ended up in the hospital after he was robbed on Main Street by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife. (career criminals btw) Obviously they didn't respect the University's "weapons free zone" status.

Everytime I read something gun related in college papers I wish these kids would be more aware of the realities surrounding them. Hell, It'd be nice if I could get through to my sister and her housemates, who live nearby where this happened and yet plenty of times I've been able to drob by and walk right in their unlocked front door.

Freshman Rachel Robbins had this to say,

"It's weird that somebody came onto campus with a gun," "It kind of made me think that anybody could be doing anything on our campus."

Well yes Rachel. Anyone CAN do anything on UD's campus. There's nothing weird about it. Smoking weed and drinking underage are both illegal and against University policy, yet both activities were rampant when I was there a few years ago.

In fact, I could legally walk right past the library where that photo was taken while carrying a gun. I could, if I so chose, carry a concealed firearm illegally all over campus, into dorms, lecture halls, and the library. The only thing stopping me is my respect for the law and my choice not do so. People can and do carry guns and other weapons on campus regularly, just as easily as this man did. If you don't realize this it's because you're not paying attention and don't look at police reports.
Hell, if Rachel even bothered to read her own student paper, including what happened to one of it's editors, she'd see that criminals DO come onto campus* with firearms and use them to commit crimes in a target-rich environment.

*Oh look, the victim is harmed after complying. Also, anyone notice the one thing most of the criminals in these stories had in common?

Seriously folks, a quick google search will show you violent crimes happen all over UD's campus. The University administration would have you believe that their gun free, weapon-free campus is a "safe place" and they'll do whatever they can to keep up that image even though it's fantasy.

Via e-mail this morning, a review of the Beretta Nano from Destinee. Interesting little gun, and it's very slim. I'll admit I don't have much use for such guns without my DE CCDW, and I'm not a fan of Glock type trigger safeties at all.

The only thing missing from the video is that with all those wardrobe changes she didn't change into a librarian outfit.

Let me introduce you to "Shit That Siri Says" I laughed out loud.

Now, you might think a new phone would mean more blogging, but every time I would sit down to blog I find myself doing other things these days. There's going to be a lot less posting here at Another Gun Blog shortly, but I'll hold off on discussing that further until I know for sure, lest I jinx myself.

Also, this phone takes great pictures compared to the 8gb. 3G I was using. Combine that with the tools in the new Instagram app and you get cool pictures, even from someone who isn't a photo guy.

On an unrelated note, you know you've got a well-behaved chocolate lab when he will sit next to you, off-leash and not move * while you snap a picture of the pond.

This post had more written but blogger ate it and I'm too lazy to re-type. Insert words here about how I carried the Dan Wesson at a busy park, a happy couple took a liking to Zachary & played fetch with him, and not a single person had any reaction whatsoever to the big, shiny hunk of steel on my hip. That is the norm. Seriously folks, if you're hesitant about open carrying, don't be.

It's about time. "Gun Free zones" are not safe. They never have been. I shouldn't have to unholster my gun and leave it in the car because I'm headed to the post office. In truth, the whole "sensitive places" argument is ridiculous. What makes a Post Office so special that they need to ban guns? What makes it any different than a UPS or FedEx store / hub?

I love the commenters who are acting like it's no big deal to just unholster, disarm, and lock the gun in the car. Ignoring the fact that this leaves you without a means of self-defense, I'll bet those same commenters would jump all over CCW'ers who have ND's while complying with such BS, or blame them when their guns are stolen from vehicles and locked in cars.

We simply can't win. If we ignore the law and carry anyway (concealed means concealed) we're bad guys. If there are more guns on the street and more unnecessary holes in things because we comply with assinine regulations we're the bad guys for being "irresponsible." It pisses me off.

I've been open carrying a lot more lately, both on the weekends and when I get home from work, and yet still none of the protestations of anti's or supposedly "pro-gun" open carry haters have happened. Aside from being asked to leave Food Lion by their unarmed "security guard" it has been completely uneventful*, which is a good thing.

*There are, of course, silly situations when I must disarm around here, but otherwise things have been as they should be. People are polite, no one really cares, and the most comment you'll get are from children who usually want to tell mom or dad "hey, that man has a gun" or come up and ask me if it's real.

Tasty! I much prefer this to 90 Minute. It's my 2nd Favorite DFH. It's not quite as sweet as 90 yet more complex and less bitter than 60 minute.

Good for her! I mean why should she back out? We have NBA and NFL players who work with kids in a similar capacity and many of them have far, far more disreputable* pasts (and presents)

Look, the woman is volunteering her time to help kids read, which is more than most people do, yet the response is the equivalent of "Witch! Witch!, she's a witch! Burn her!" Oh my god! A former pornstar, in a school, reading to children!

From what I've just briefly read she seems like an intelligent, successful young woman who is done with that phase of her life and wants to do this because she genuinely wants to help kids. That's a decent and honorable thing, and where's the harm in it? This isn't some pedophile or sexual predator, it's a pornstar, yet to moral busybodies you'd think there was no difference. Even if it mattered, t's not like elementary kids would even know who she is without some prudish, guilt-ridden adult telling them.

I dunno, the outrage here just rubbed me the wrong way..... I mean these parents are just talking out of their asses. Don't they know Ms. Grey won an AVN award for 2010 best anal sex scene? Ok, in all seriousness....

Peace through superior beer

Last Thursday night I went to a Dogfish Head beer tasting & 4 course dinner at the Stone Balloon Winehouse in Newark. The Winehouse is smack in the middle of Main Street, just down from the Brewery. It's a really classy place, totally out of place in a college town. I happened to be walking down Main Street one day in September and saw a sign outside the Winehouse for a Dogfish head dinner & tasting event taking place in November, so I thought I'd treat my little sister as a late birthday present.

It was awesome! The place is beautiful, and really far, far too upscale for me. When I look at the menu and don't know what some of the words mean I know I'm out of my element.

The first dish was some kind of Smoked Tuna which looked like I'd hate it when it came out, but something on the plate tasted like bacon, so tuna dipped in that was great. They paired this with Dogfish Head Red & White, a beligian white ale that didn't have the strong coriander taste I often dislike about belgians. It was my first time trying it. I'll have to buy a bottle.

The second dish was smoked duck, which was tasty as well. It was paired with Sah' Tea, which I haven't had in a while. I'd forgotten how much I liked it.

There's only one word to describe the third course. NOM! Braised pork shank that was slightly crispy on the outside, yet fall off the bone, melt in your mouth tender. If they'd given me 4 plates of it I'd have devoured it all! The only thing that would've made it better would've been a side of bacon. They paired this one with Bitches Brew, the only dark beer of the night. Even Breda likes Bitches Brew, and she's more of an IPA drinker.

The last course was something I dug into having not the slightest clue what I was eating. I'm glad I didn't know, because fatty duck liver sounds gross. Foie Gras, which apparently PETA hates! Good to know I pissed off some hippies! The beer, a vintage 09' Olde School Barleywine was probably my favorite of the night. Last time I tried Barleywine style beer I hated it, but maybe if I buy some Olde School and cellar it it'll mellow out, sweeten up and not be so bitter.

Our system will implode if left on its current course, and while I can't pretend to know how the collapse will take place or what the inevitable conflict will look like I know it won't be pretty. The best case scenario is that they back of the accelerator a bit.

The conflict is basic and classic. It is, as it has always been, between the dependent class and those who wish to live free. Those who must rule will be propped up by those who wish to be ruled. My biggest fear as an American who loves liberty is that the collapse will begin and end with those who wish to be taken care of. In my experience you can't even get them to see what's occuring, to understand the inevitable, etc. They are in denial.......and they vote.

Ohians voted to hasten their own collapse.* Public sector unions pour millions into lobbying to maintain the status quo, meanwhile someone like me, who works in the private sector, has to pay for a portion of his employee benefits when the economy goes south. Simply ask the public sector to do what folks like me have already had to do and all hell breaks loose. The private sector has no taxpayer funded trough to feed at (in theory, although with bailouts these days.)

I don't know what the solution is, but I don't hold out much hope of our elected representatives getting us out of this mess. How can we expect them to stop the largesse & get our house in order when we can't even get them to sign off on a bill to cut their own overinflated pay by 5%?

I often look at some of my fellow citizens and worry. We both call ourselves Americans of course, and we both occupy the same country, yet the similarities feel like they end there. The ideological gulf between us is that vast. Sigh. Maybe winter doldrums are making me more cynical than usual?

*government workers work for you and I, the taxpayer. Why in the hell should they have collective bargaining rights? Even FDR opposed collective bargaining for public sector employees and understood the toxic relationship it created between unions and government.

1911 Mags

You know what's really annoying? When you buy a new ~$1100 gun and right out of the box the mags don't want to work.

The DW Heritage shipped with two Checkmate mags. They are only so-so in the reliability department, with the biggest issue being the first round in the mag nosediving when trying to load the gun. They do seem to run better at the range as long as I only load 7 rounds, but I don't trust them and they've been relegated to range-only mags.

My Chip McCormick Power Mag Plus mags? Not a single problem. They've run flawlessly in the Heritage since day one without my having to download them.

I also bought one Les Baer mag. With the slide closed I can't even insert a loaded mag. It'll go 90% in and I'll encounter a ton of resistance. I'll be giving that one to Laura & Chris the next time I see them. Maybe it'll work in one of their 1911's.

I guess that's what you get when you buy a 1911, and why there are a million different manufacturers of 1911 mags.

A man is shot in the head at an Occupy Oakland protest. A reporter trying to take video after the shooting was attacked and had her phone taken from her by a protester. Other journalists fared even worse.

"A few feet away a TV cameraman was shooting footage and a crowd of twenty or so men attacked and punched him, forcing him over the railing of the 14th Street BART Station."

Unprovoked mob violence. Violence seems to be a common thread with the OWS movement. The media went apeshit when Tea Party protesters peacefully held signs with "violent" quotes from the Founding Fathers. I can't even imagine what the coverage would've been like had the Tea Party engaged in the acts the OWS movement has so far.

Can you spot the problem?

Safe Space

So the Zuccotti OWS protesters have built a "safe house" housing only women protesters in order to protect them from rapists & other sexual predators. How sad, naive and disgusting is that? Why should these women have to huddle in a "safe house" for fear of being raped at a protest?

I'm sure this "safe house" will work about as well as "gun-free zones." Hey! Why didn't they just call the whole of Zuccotti park a "rape-free zone," put up signs and be done with it? Who the hell thought that the response to an obvious predator problem was to put all of the potential victims in one centralized location and then magically deem it a "safe place?"

You know where a woman's rape-free "safe place" should be? All around her, and any rapist who attempts to forcibly violate that should eat lead. End of story. Instead a man forces himself on an OWS protester in Zuccotti where one reporter observes,

"The threat of rape is very real here -- for women and men."

Even worse, the reaction of the victim in the article is "I'll try and get him arrested in the morning." It pains me to see such a "sit back and take it" mentality from the victim. It angers me to see these things happening, the media largely ignoring it, and the OWS "communities" deciding to internally police the matter.

The picture accompanying this NY Daily News article just makes me shake my head and sigh.

If you read one thing today it should be this Time magazine piece about Herman Cain. It's a degrading, disgusting, despicable piece of journalistic filth. Should he be able to say it? Yes, but can you imagine the outrage if a conservative had written such a piece about candidate Obama back in 2008?

Most of the article doesn't even attempt to attack Cain on policy or merit, it's just chock full of personal attacks. (and this was written BEFORE the whole "sexual harassment" fiasco)

I'm going to quote the first line of the article just to give you a taste. It gets worse from there. He refers to Cain as "Big Daddy Cain," calls him a "clown" a "buffoon"

"This presidential election has not lacked for clowns, and in a circus Herman Cain fits right in. But as the Black clown, Cain’s foot-in-mouth moments mostly involve insulting the Black community."

The lengths people will go to in order to personally destroy black conservatives, and the vitriol aimed at them never ceases to amaze me.

Sometimes you have to wonder what kind of "firearms training" the police are actually getting.

A Newark cops shoots another cop. Let's see.

1. Handing a loaded firearm while not on the range
2. Two officers are handling the "abnormal" firearm and neither think to clear the weapon.
3. Not keeping said gun pointed in a safe direction while engaging in all of this handling.
4. More than likely one of em' put their finger on the bang switch.

According to the article these two officers had just finished firearms training. Apparently they either can't listen or the Newark Police Dept. doesn't teach The Four Rules. They might want to start teaching those as well as something Tam is fond of saying. Stop touching it!

Mom W. is armed!

Mom W. is armed now and I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, "Yay, good for her!" On the other hand, there's now an empty spot in my safe.

After I first brought her shooting a few years ago she asked "can the little gun be my gun?" There have been a few more outings with the FS22 since then and I suppose I finally caved. Sure, it's only a .22lr, but she likes it, shoots it well, and most importantly, she thinks it's "cute."

Now she just needs to buy her own Bersa so I can get mine back.

Oh, and she also said she'd like to get her CCDW eventually. If you'd told me back when I started this blog that those words would come out of Mom's mouth I'd have said you were crazy.

Occupy Delaware comes here

So it looks like Occupy Delaware is going to be squatting right by where I work. Management has informed us that there will be extra State and Wilmington police in the area and they have increased our building security guard staff.

As of right now it appears they might be granted a permit to stay overnight for the weekend*, but predictably these folks have no respect for the rule of law. They plan to stay indefinitely and ignore any orders to vacate the park. The OWS group seems to think that because their general assembly voted to defy state law that it's perfectly OK.

*It is illegal to be in a state park after dusk in Delaware. This has been the case for years. I actually got chewed out by an OWS protester last week for simply pointing this fact out.

I'm still trying to decide whether I want to head down there tomorrow with my camera.
